My strapless wedding dress keeps slipping: which alterations can help?
Natalia3 min read
Pulling up your bodice all night is many brides' worst fear. In most cases the issue is the fit, and it can be fixed.
Why a strapless dress slips
A strapless dress is held up by a bodice that's snug at the waist and under the bust, not by the top edge. If the bodice is slightly too loose, the weight of the skirt pulls the whole dress down.
Possible adjustments
- Taking in the bodice at the sides or back so it hugs the waist.
- Adding or reinforcing boning to structure the bust.
- Adding sewn-in cups or an inner waist stay (grosgrain) that anchors the dress at the waist.
Test it by moving
During fittings we test real wedding-day movements: walking, sitting, raising your arms, dancing, bending. Wear the lingerie you plan to wear on the day — it's part of the support.
